Everybody is asking, when will the outing will be held again? Sorry to make you all waiting and sorry for this short announcement too! This will be the second official Pixelayer outing with friends to promote friendship and to help each other. Please share this excited day out with Pixelayer and Friends.We would like to invite all of you no matter DSLR user or compact user, videographers or painters, and good news to modelling enthusiast who want to improve their poses. Feel the excitement and register with us by tomorrow for us to arrange with the meals & beverages. I received a text from my previous high school friend. Her name is Alevera. She was asking me to quote a pre-wedding photo-shoot. I was busy with some tasks this few days but because of the spirit of friendship, I manage to organize my time for Alevera and ask the Pixelayerion to join the shooting. The couple for the pre-wedding are Tracy and Rizwan, a cool and lovable couple. They remind my about the classic love stories and the humbleness that must have in a relationship. These photos were taken on 20/11/2010, at unusual timing. 11.00am - 4.30pm - Malaysia time, I break the rules of the correct time of photo shooting. Some might over exposed, but we found that the colour turns what we want it to be. I hope the couple enjoy the photo-shoot as much as we did.

Dear friends,

The deadline for Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) comments is the 31st of July. While the term EIA sounds daunting everyone has the right to comment on this document.

To help regular folks like ourselves out, we have summarised the "problems" with the EIA out with 14 points of concern. Click here to view whole document or scroll down.

We have also composed a sample letter you can use to write your concerns to the Department of Environment (DOE). Click here or scroll down.

However, these letters MUST REACH THE DOE BY SATURDAY THE 31ST OF JULY. To make sure that these letters reach DOE by Friday, you can fax it directly to us at 088-244502. We will make sure it gets to the DOE by Friday.

These letters are extremely important but they need to be signed hence the faxing. They also need to have your name and IC number. If you need to send them via email please do so to nocoal.sabah@gmail.com but you will need to scan the letter as the letter needs your signature.

Whether you are Malaysian or not, please do take the time to write.

Points of concern

Comments on Detailed Environmental Impact Assessment (DEIA) for

the 300MW Coal-Fired Power Plant in Sinakut, Lahad Datu, Sabah.

Key points for public comments:

1. One of the objectives for the DEIA is to improve on the environmental design of the project. However, the public or technical people are unable to assess the environmental design as it is not outlined/described and it is therefore difficult to know the efficiency of the plant. For instance, the DEIA does not specify the type of plant parts used. To assess the plant, we need to know types of parts used for the coal plant as the type used will determine efficiency of the plant in the waste generated.

2. The potential mitigation measures mentioned in the DEIA are shallow and general. One of the objectives of the DEIA is to facilitate informed decision making. However, the DEIA report does not allow for this as there is a lack of basic design details, poor data on the marine environment, and assumptions of sufficiency based on no data are unacceptable at this level of review and assessment.

3. Compensatory mitigation for impact on marine environment, loss of income, health impact, greenhouse gases and others are completely overlooked.

4. Earthquake risk: It is inaccurate to say that the site is safe from earthquake tremors. The whole Dent peninsula is within the 40-100 kilometre range of earthquake tremors generated onshore and offshore. In April 2008, an earthquake at the Celebes Sea caused tremors in the Tungku area, near the proposed site. This resulted in cracks on several buildings including SMK Tungku and Hospital Tungku. A New Sunday Times article on 20th May 2007 quoted Sabah Mineral and Geoscience Department director Alexander Yan as saying Sabah has experienced 78 quakes in the last century.

5. Sampling done for the DEIA do not cover a wide enough range of sites to give a full understanding of the site and its surroundings. In short, sampling site chosen are not good enough to represent the area. In assessing the marine area, only two days were taken for sampling and why certain sites were chosen were not indicated. A habitat map showing sand, mud/silt, seagrass, rocks, corals and areas of high benthic diversity should have been done. Comparisons are made with far away locations and coral ecosystems instead of similar habitats. This is misleading.

6. There is no mention that Darvel Bay is home to resident and migratory marine animals like turtles, whale sharks, dolphins, dugongs and others.

7. Fish species used in the report as indicators are not representative of species found at the site. The species list should have been modified to cover locally common, unique or commercially important species.

8. There will be a large impact on larvae fish according to the study, but that there will be no impact on adult fish. It is misleading for the DEIA to state that there is no impact on adult fish as larvae wont have a chance to grow. Marine zones like seagrass, mudflats and mangroves are spawning areas for fish and crustaceans. Impact on fish larvae will effect fish populations over a wider area.

9. In its list of mammal species, the report stated two mammals that are not present in Sabah. The two are wild pig (Sus scrofa) and Dusky langur (Semnopithecus obscurus). In its list of bird species, the White rumped shama is not present in Sabah.

10. There is a lack of assessment and interpretation of results on phytoplankton. The report calculates Boyd’s Biodiversity index for phytoplankton and shows it to have a value approaching that of pristine waters, but this is not indicated.

11. The socio-economic study is doubtful. It states that the community in Kampung Sinakut are squatters, which cannot be the case for a traditional village with a village headman. The DEIA also states that “Orang Sungai” are of Indonesian descent. This clearly shows ignorance on the part of those doing the study.

12. A baseline study shows that acid rain is already present at the site with a pH of 4.66. There is a need to further study why acid rain is happening in the area. It is also wrong to compare agriculture and forested Dent peninsula with Petaling Jaya which is industrialised and urbanized.

13. Climate change as a major impact is not mentioned. The scope of the DEIA should include measures to minimise/mitigate greenhouse gas emissions from the proposed project.

14. Despite repeated newspaper articles that mention clean coal technology will be used, there is no mention of it in the DEIA. This is a cause of grave concern. Also there is no such thing as “clean coal technology” today hence it is extremely misleading to use this term.

Having read the DEIA report that was put up at some public places, I have a number of concerns on the overall project. There are glaring technical issues:-

• the existing physical environment has been wrongly represented by the consultants, thereby misleading the public;

• the full adverse impacts from the plant has not been discussed analytically,

• identification of species that do not exist in Sabah have been listed, and

• that potential mitigation measures are shallow and too general.

This does not allow me to assess the real situation. In short, the whole study is faulty and should be dismissed.

I would like to single out some points which I feel are important to Sabah’s tourism industry and our potential as a seafood basket for the nation and region. The following are my comments:

After had the blast Gala night at Kota Marudu, we head to north again for another assignment. Again, Sebastian and I cover for Pixelayer on Azizi & Fifi Akad Nikah & Malam Berinai on 21 May 2010. Azizi is a Sarawakian and work in Kota Kinabalu as a policeman, and Fifi is from Kg. Taun Gusi, Kota Belud, a very beautiful land and scenery I must say. Sodop Unduk Ngadau 2010 - 20/5/2010

We (Sebastian & Me) just had a very exhausted weekend. On the last thursday night, we headed to the neighbour of the tip of Borneo which is Kota Marudu to witness Sodop Unduk Ngadau or the Gala Night for the Harvest festival beauty pageant (widely known as the remembrance of the Huminodun legend). This is our first time attending beauty pageant gala night at remote site area such as Kota Marudu. Our expectation was like a normal night, sit down and watch the participant doing catwalks, enjoy the food and take some photos with the participants. However, the event was totally awesome and we did not expect that Abu Bakar Ella will be the emcee for the night, never thought that there will be performance by our local artist and also imported ones from Peninsular, we did not expect the event turn out so stunning and very exciting! Moreover, there were funfair just outside the hall. The scene just like the grand event in KDCA! Thanks to Cahaya Bridal for giving us an opportunity to experience of such great event and learn that a good teamwork produce a very good impression. Here are some of the photos for your view.

Frequently Asked Questions;
1) Why did your price quoted are very cheap? Your picture must be not very good.
Answer: Is not necessary to have a very good picture in a very expensive figure, it's your choice to be wise on your budget. Why choose to spend more when you can save and unlimited enjoyment?

2) Your price range is crazy, this will effect other full time photographer.
Answer: Do not worry, the price shown in the promotion tab is not a permanent price range. As you can see, we put the validation date for our guest to enjoy. Is not like killing-the-market strategy.

3) I'm getting married this December, but I wish to get 2 days and 1 night package with Photobook album. Can it be done?
Answer: Sure, no problem, your wish is our command. We can discuss together and provide you some option for you to choose.

4) The promotion ended on 31 August 2009, but our wedding is on September, 2009. Can we book under August promotion?
Answer: Yes, made a booking before the dateline, and pay 10% and your photoshoot will be held in September without worry.

Ghost Hunting Begin

Not capturing ghost, but we are turning ghost. In order to make it all in order, we have to sacrifice our time to make Pixelayer had a vision and mission to fulfill not like some boy bands who split up after getting married. No offence, Pixelayer not only a group but a family member who remain together forever. Therefore, the name, the member are very important to us. It is more about sharing nice photos and learning each other. A family not necessarily to be always near, but they will come back once in while and had a nice dinner gathering. That is our spirit that we will not let to not have in our each other heart. Uniquely, we are different but same. We are human.

1) Copyright

It is therefore contrary to the Act, and illegal, to copy photographs, or allow to be copied, by any means photographic or otherwise, by any person or machine other than by The Photographer(s) or their team members.

2) Payment & refund

A deposit payment of 50% of the total cost is payable upon booking.
Deposit payments may be made either via PayPal or by bank transfer in Maybank2U, Public Bank, AmBank, CIMB, Alliance Bank and AffinBank.
Please contact any of Pixelayer member and for bank details if you wish to make a bank transfer.
All prices and packages are based in Ringgit Malaysia (RM)
Extra charges may apply for additional hours
Any cancellations more than 14 days before the booked session date: Full refund less 20% administration fee.
Any cancellations less than 14 days before the booked tour date: Deposit forfeited.
Notification of cancellation by either e-mail or phone is acceptable but must be followed by written confirmation

3) Inclusions and exclusions

Package quoted is fuel coverage within Tuaran - Kota Kinabalu - Putatan only
The package price does not includes gowns and transport to the outdoor location
The pixelayer will not responsibility for loss, damage, theft or injury to person or property resulting from the actions of during the session.
The pixelayer reserves the right to withdraw or conclude the package at any time or to decline the package at any time, for any reason.

4) Coverage

The Photographer(s) shall be granted artistic licence in relation to the poses photographed and the locations used. The Photographer(s) judgement regarding the location, poses and number of photographs taken shall be deemed correct.
For a booking involving a church ceremony The Photographer(s) movements are sometimes restricted by the minister in charge. The area from which The Photographer(s) are able to cover the ceremony may not be The Photographer(s) choice and The Photographer(s) cannot accept responsibility for any obstructed view should this be the case.
For a wedding or other occasion booking The Photographer(s) shall endeavour to capture all the moments throughout the day as they occur. However, because of the nature of the event, as a one off, some unforeseen moments might not be recorded.
Please note that any alterations made to the booking by The Client(s) once details have been confirmed may only be made at the discretion of The Photographer(s) and in some circumstances (such as the change of ceremony date for a wedding booking) The Photographer(s) may be unable to accommodate these alterations due to a conflict of commitments. Under these circumstances The Photographer(s) are not liable to compensate The Client(s) in any way whatsoever.
Due to a variety of lighting conditions and the limitations of professional film or digital capture, some colours may alter slightly throughout a set of photographs. Please note that certain colours do not reproduce exactly on photographic film or paper.
It is understood that all photographic printing is undertaken within the technical limitations of the process and that colour may not necessarily be facsimile over the whole range of colours within a subject. It is also understood that prints made at different times or in different sizes may be variable in colour balance.
All print and presentation sizes quoted are approximate and subject to the discretion of The Photographer(s).
Although all equipment is checked regularly The Photographer(s) will not be responsible for photographs that are not produced due to technical failure, either at the shooting or processing stage.

Today, the date is important for this blog, a history for the first release of Pixelayer Photography. Why we choose Pixelayer Photography? There was a history behind this untold mystery of confusing name. Some people may hard to pronounce it well. Pixelayer should be sound like Pix-Xel-Lay-Yer. With the existence of Pixelayer Photography, we hope will expand the name of Pixelayer and promote the Sabahan enthusiast for the lover of photos and provide affordable wedding and event packages for their big day and special occasion.
